Originally from the Caribbean island of Dominican Republic, I'm a translator, editor, interpreter, writer, and artist in tree-filled New Hampshire, USA.
The Attitude I Bring to Each Project
I came to the United States from the Dominican Republic at age four in 1995. Shy, different, and with only a few close friends, I gravitated toward journaling, a solitary activity, after learning about it in school. I enjoyed the weight and dimensions of journals; books too. To this day, I love language—words, books, writing...
Immigrating to the United States so young motivated me to keep my culture alive within me, and language—written and spoken—is a huge part of that. Spanish is my first language, but I learned English so young that I'm lucky to be fluent in both. I use both Spanish and English in my everyday life.
Alongside my abilities with Spanish and English, and my love of language in general, I have an intimate understanding of multiple cultures, putting me in a position to translate in a way that's natural and real.
Even when no perfect translation exists, a translation must be made. That's where the translation magic happens. It's true that things can get "lost in translation"—that's the beauty of it all (and why translation apps don't cut it)—but it's my job and pastime to preserve the essence of the message. I have fun discovering the best phrases in both languages.
Professional Experience
- In my role as a Spanish–English medical interpreter, held since 2014, I interact with patients from all over the Spanish-speaking world: aka, Central America (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras...), South America (Colombia, Venezuela, Chile...), the Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic), and Spain.
- Through my previous freelance business, Pure Text Editing, for 10 years I was a writing mentor, fiction critic, and editor/proofreader of novels, short stories, business materials, and much more, meaning I have a deep understanding of story, writing, grammar, syntax, punctuation, and style.

Established in 2026, Lauren Ines / Text is my way of taking my skills in a fresh new direction after 16 years. Using my background in medical interpretation/translation and primarily fiction editing, I'm putting my Spanish–English skills to use beyond the solely medical, while taking my editorial experience more toward business and industry services.
For now, I only translate from Spanish to English. In the future, there's a great chance I'll translate from English to Spanish too. Editorial services are only for materials in English.
Quick Definitions
Interpretation is spoken. Interpreters move from one language to another while speaking, be it in person or virtually via video or phone.
